The World According To Woj

Hi Everyone,

Life is wonderful right now. On Father's Day, my son moved in with me. It was a great feeling and I still feel really good about everything. He has a very calming effect on me. My job search stress has gone way down and it's all about family now.

The transition went well except for my ex-wife's new husband. I, personally, felt he was a bit of an *asshole* about the whole move. I used to think he was an okay guy taking care of my son.

My ex- is 8 months pregnant and stayed home with her one year old. I had offered to help with the moving truck and even to help them load the truck at their house but she told me her husband didn't need any help. So, he loaded the truck and then drove my son to me at my storage facility where the rest of my stuff is hanging around (because of my job situation, my whole household is in storage while I live with family).

I didn't see them initially arrive because I was shifting stuff between my two bins to make room. My ex- called me to tell me they were there. They had parked on the side of the building instead of up front where I'd see them. So, I walked out to asses how much stuff was in the truck. I was surprised to find half my son's stuff already unloaded and piled on the sidewalk. I told my ex-'s husband to hang on until we see how much room we have in the bins before we offload everything. I had figured he would help me pack it into the bins and I was also concerned about theft and such with my son's computer and furniture just sitting about while we were inside the building.

He informed me that he was able to load the truck himself so I was able to take care of it all from there. No problem but I was really taken aback by this attitude of dump and go. He was carelessly offloading stuff and piling it up. So, I went to grab the mattress and boxspring he had piled on everything and stuff was falling everywhere. He didn't care...he just wanted to leave.

Well, I asked him to at least help me with the two mattress and boxspring which he did help carry reluctantly. I asked him what was up while we carried the mattress and he simply said, "he had things to do".

Afterwards, I started moving my son's stuff in chunks to before my storage lower level storage bin. I figured it was safer there than hanging around outside. I was able to move one load there before my ex-'s husband was done offloading the rest of the truck. So, he just waved me a good-bye, jumped in the truck, and left so fast he practically peeled out of the lot.

I was pretty mad about the careless disregard for my son's stuff and his unfeeling dismissal of it all. I quickly put it behind me because I had more important things to worry about. So, my son and I just kept moving loads to the bin and then we reorganized my bin and added his stuff in. Luckily, there was enough room and I didn't have to get an additional bin.

We grabbed some McDonald's for a lunch treat. During lunch, my son told me he spent his morning cleaning gutters after the truck was packed instead of spending time with his mom. I guess his stepdad didn't think it was very important for him to have any mom time.

Afterwards, we went home where my son is well loved by myself and both of my parents. He seems so far to have transitioned very well with no real issues.

I guess being out of work right now has some positives. I've been able to give my son lots of quality time. Plus, we are getting out and about for exercise each day together while I am off. It's been good for him and good for me.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. I hope your Father's Day was as special as mine in it's own way.

Woj
